Islamorada Located between the Upper Matecumbe Key, Lower Matecumbe Key, Plantation Key and Windley Key in the Florida Keys, Islamorada is an incorporated village in Monroe County, considered in fact a "Village of Islands" since 1997, year of its incorporation. Originally, Islamorada was considered to be on the island of Upper Matecumbe Key. According to the 200 U.S. Census Bureau, the actual village has a total area of 7.2 mi² (18.8 km²) and a total population of 6,846. Like other towns in Florida and southern America, Islamorada was named from the Spanish words for Purple Island.
